Réal Décoste Scholarship

Objective

The Réal Décoste Scholarship was founded by the Ouranos Consortium to foster students’ interest in climate change and provide financial assistance for top students, to help them undertake or pursue postgraduate studies.

    • life sciences
    • social sciences.

Priority sectors*

Ouranos gives priority to the following sectors:

  • Climate simulations
  • Hydroclimatic analyses
  • Climate scenarios
  • Climate impacts on:
    • Public safety and secure infrastructures
    • Energy supply
    • Water resources
    • Health
    • Forestry, agricultural, mining, tourism and transportation operations
    • Protecting the natural environment

Réal Décoste

The Réal Décoste Merit Scholarship Program was founded to honour the visionary work of the first Executive Director of Ouranos, Réal Décoste, who died in July 2004. Mr. Décoste created Ouranos with the goal of fostering partnerships and multidisciplinarity.

He drew on his remarkable skills as a scientist, communicator and manager to give this new organization a positive start. Already, Ouranos is making its mark on the national and international scenes in research into climatology and its impacts.

A graduate of the Université du Québec à Montréal, with a PhD in Physics from the University of Maryland and a Researcher at the Naval Research Laboratory and at Hydro-Québec, Mr. Décoste also authored and co-authored over 80 articles in scientific journals, mainly on the topic of energy.
