Water availability and quality

With thousands of water bodies across its territory, Quebec contains 3% of the world’s freshwater reserves. Approximately 40% of this water is concentrated in the St. Lawrence watershed. Drinking water supply, a multitude of ecosystems and numerous economic activities are all dependent on this resource.

Even if Quebec is blessed with such an abundant resource, the latter can still be vulnerable to climate change and its impact on the water cycle. In fact, this threat is likely to grow over time and have repercussions on both the availability and the quality of water in Quebec. Fortunately, a number of solutions exist to address the impacts of water-related issues.
