Collaborate with Ouranos

We are constantly on the lookout for new areas of expertise in a multitude of fields related to the science of climate change adaptation.

Whether you work for a university, a research centre or any other organization with roles and responsibilities in climate adaptation, your skills may be of great value, both for Ouranos and for society!

Likewise, if you represent a funding organization dedicated to applied research in climate change adaptation, we would be pleased to meet with you.

Helping drive climate change adaptation forward

Through integrated scientific programming and collaborative governance, Ouranos stimulates and supports the development of relevant, credible, accessible research results, developed with methodological rigour and delivered efficiently.

In addition, Ouranos facilitates collaboration and communication between researchers and people having an impact in the field, including decision-makers. It ensures the coherence and effectiveness of these interactions through internal coordination and regular meetings with adaptation researchers and stakeholders.

“Ouranos aims to generate opportunities for sharing different perspectives and to create venues to encourage collaboration among people from diverse backgrounds, in order to more effectively mobilize stakeholders and knowledge in support of climate change adaptation.”

The life cycle of research projects

Ouranos divides its research projects into four major phases. The projects are conceived, developed and carried out as part of the organization’s scientific program.

The research topics to be prioritized arise from various sources and are based on the needs in terms of understanding how climate phenomena are changing, better grasping the impacts and sources of vulnerability, and implementing the most appropriate adaptation strategies.

Each topic is analyzed. If the topic is deemed a priority, it progresses to the next phase.

The project proposal may arise from a call for projects or be the result of a more targeted approach with a team mobilized to develop research work that meets specific needs.

A brief proposal outlining the project is then submitted to committees made up of experts from different industries, fields and disciplines representing the main stakeholders involved in the subject, so that they can validate the project’s relevance.

A detailed proposal describing the proposed methodology is then developed and submitted for a scientific quality assessment through a peer review process.

Lastly, an overall evaluation is carried out by the members of the relevant steering committees and the management of Ouranos.
Agreements are signed concerning the selected projects, and then work can begin.

Projects usually begin with a kick-off meeting attended by members of a monitoring committee that is formed as of the start-up phase. This committee is mandated to guide the project team in its strategic and methodological decisions. It is a mechanism to promote knowledge transfer and plays a role in monitoring the progress of the project to ensure that the objectives are met.

The final report and the deliverables associated with the project are submitted to the members of the monitoring committee for comments.

A closing meeting is organized to review the project.

Strategy for the dissemination of results and ongoing mobilization

In order to make the research results accessible and to generate the greatest possible impact, a dissemination and communication strategy is implemented. This includes disseminating the results through various channels, including the website, training sessions, webinars, social media posts, the organization’s newsletter, etc.

In parallel, a network mobilization strategy is continuously deployed to share information, strengthen connections, build partnerships, and position the organization and increase its visibility.

NOTICE TO RESEARCHERS

Whether your work is done in academia, in a specialized research unit or in an organization with roles and responsibilities in climate change adaptation, your scientific contribution is essential to support Ouranos’ mission and inform the public about climate-related challenges.
