The new Safety Action Plan related to flooding, announced on March 1st, 2018, provides more than $ 30M over 5 years to advance floodplain mapping in Quebec. An envelope of $ 6.9 million over five years has been granted to Ouranos and its network to support the MDDELCC’s Info-Crue program, which aims at mapping in a context of climate change. Ouranos recently set up a Steering Committee made up of representatives of the organization and the Quebec Government, to define the strategy and ensure optimal management of the envelope.
The process of implementing this initiative is becoming clearer. Click here for more details (French only).
This promising initiative will address several R&D needs related to floodplain mapping in a changing climate. Thus, R&D needs are now moving towards more socio-economic dimensions associated with climate change (operationalization of adaptation in society, socio-economic aspects, municipal taxation, landscape management, etc.). As a result, Ouranos now invites researchers to prioritize those themes that are less well funded but crucial for adaptation.
