Context

For INFO-Crue, the calculations used to perform mapping, and therefore the climate change phase, is based on three sets of climate simulations: the fifth phase of the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project (CMIP5), CORDEX North America, and ClimEx. However, the sixth phase of CMIP has now been completed and a new series of simulations has been made available.

Some of these simulations follow a protocol similar to CMIP5 but were produced with a new generation of climate models, while others follow entirely new protocols. Among these, the High Resolution Model Intercomparison Project (HighResMIP) offers simulations at unprecedented resolutions for global models, for both the atmospheric and oceanic components.

This project is part of the INFO-Crue initiative set up by the MELCC.

Objective(s)

  • This project aims to update part of the database used in modelling and to provide the hydrologic expertise unit with a new dataset that can drive HYDROTEL.

  • This project will also estimate the signal difference between CMIP5 and CMIP6. In addition, the uncertainty associated with the choice of post-processing method will be estimated by comparing the previously used univariate method with a multivariate post-processing method.

Specific objectives :

  • Produce a dataset derived from CMIP6 simulations with the variables needed to drive HYDROTEL

  • Provide relevant information to support the understanding and use of this data
