The Réal Décoste Merit Scholarship Program was founded to honour the visionary work of Ouranos’ first Executive Director, Réal Décoste, who died in 2004. Mr. Décoste created Ouranos with the goal of fostering partnerships and multidisciplinarity.

He drew on his remarkable skills as a scientist, communicator and manager to give this new organization a positive start. Ouranos’ research into climatology and its impacts has already helped the organization make its mark nationally and internationally.

Mr. Décoste graduated from the l’Université du Québec à Montréal, earned a Doctorate in physics from the University of Maryland, and served as a researcher at the Naval Research Laboratory and at Hydro-Québec. He has authored and co-authored more than 80 articles in scientific journals, mainly on the topic of energy.
