Social and health challenges

Help mitigate the psychological, social and health impacts of climate change throughout the Quebec population, especially in high-risk groups, by developing and mobilizing knowledge to better understand, prevent and manage such impacts

Minimize the scale of social and health challenges

Climate change and its associated repercussions – notably on air, water, foodstuffs and living environments – undermine the foundations of public health while increasing the risks of disease.

Ouranos endeavours to help mitigate the psychological, social and health impacts of climate change throughout the Quebec population – especially in high-risk groups – by developing and mobilizing knowledge to better understand, prevent and manage such impacts

Issues

  • Growing impacts of climate change on physical, mental and social health

  • Reported effects on health and social services as well as on the economy

Objective(s)

In collaboration with a number of partners, notably the healthcare sector, municipalities, community organizations, etc.:

  • Further develop knowledge on psychosocial and health impacts as well as on climate change adaptation mechanisms within the population;

  • Carry out projects that enable acquired knowledge to be applied in concrete ways in order to improve the health of the Quebec population.
