Climate justice and homelessness: Developing participatory intersectional solutions to the impacts of climate change
Summary of the presentation
The Observatoire québécois des inégalités in collaboration with Ouranos. Based on a preliminary project carried out in Laval in 2024, which generated considerable interest, we will explore the impacts of climate change on people experiencing homelessness—an angle that is largely absent from current research and action. The webinar will present the methodological approach (GBA+ and participatory action research), the main issues identified, and preliminary data from a workshop held in Fall 2025 with experts by experience. The aim is to demonstrate the importance of considering this intersection as a priority issue in climate and social justice, and to highlight potential solutions co-developed by and for the people concerned.
Learning objectives:
• Understand the specific impacts of climate change on people experiencing homelessness from a GBA+ perspective
• Learn about a participatory action research approach that benefits from the knowledge of people with lived experience
• Identify potential solutions co-developed by and for people experiencing homelessness
