This presentation will address the issue of water availability and will unveil some tools developed by the Ministère de l’Environnement, de la Lutte contre les changements climatiques, de la Faune et des Parcs to better regulate water withdrawals. One of the key initiatives is the pilot project on the active management of surface water withdrawals. Its approach is to manage surface water withdrawals based on the actual state of the resource and to mitigate water stress during droughts. The presentation will offer an overview of this innovative project, its ambitions, and the collaborations underpinning it.

Sébastien Ouellet-Proulx holds a Ph.D. in water sciences from the Institut national de la recherche scientifique. He is the head of the water resources management team in the Drinking Water, Groundwater, and Surface Water Branch of the Ministry of the Environment, Climate Change, Wildlife, and Parks.
