Reflections on the consequences of climate change on landslides in Quebec

Ariane Locat, Université Laval
Presentation summary

The presentation will begin with some background on landslides in Quebec, describing the main types of landslides observed. Their aggravating factors and triggers will then be examined, as well as their links with climate parameters that are likely to destabilize soils, such as rainfall and temperature. Lastly, the potential impact of climate change on the frequency of landslides in Quebec will be discussed.

Learning objectives

  • Describe the context of landslides in Quebec and the main aggravating factors and triggers

  • Explain the consequences of the current climate and the potential impact of climate change on susceptibility to landslides
