Summary of the presentation

Global climate change has increased the demand for reliable regional climate information. Robust information helps inform decision-making processes at all levels of society in order to mitigate climate risks. The Regional Information for Society (RIfS) project is a core project of the World Climate Research Programme. It develops, coordinates and strengthens collaboration between scientists, decision-makers and society in order to amplify the scientific value of regional climate information in policy and decision-making contexts. Launched in 2023, the project is structured around a regional project office, hosted by Ouranos, and a scientific steering group made up of fifteen international experts. In addition, there is a global network of experts who contribute their time on a voluntary basis and who have enabled the launch of a working group, five task forces and two initiatives.

Learning objectives:

  • Explain what the RIfS is, how it is structured and how it works

  • Provide an overview of ongoing and planned activities

  • Discuss the opportunities that RIfS can offer Canada, Quebec and Ouranos
