Thunderstorms and lightning

Warming of temperatures
Increased atmospheric instability
Increase of the thunderstorms

The predicted warming of temperatures in Quebec is expected to contribute to increased atmospheric instability, leading to a greater number of thunderstorms. However, scientific data remains fragmentary and does not allow us to put forward concrete figures with any level of confidence as to future changes in these phenomena in the province.

Indicators from simulations related to thunderstorms also suggest that the frequency and intensity of intense, short-lived precipitation is set to increase. This increase is consistent with the expected temperature rise in each region.

As for changes in the strength of the violent winds associated with thunderstorms, so far there is no scientific consensus on this subject. It is not yet possible to say whether there will be changes in lightning in the future, either.
