Ouranos participated in COP27, where the consortium was able to share the most recent knowledge in climate science and climate change adaptation, in addition to promoting Adaptation Futures 2023 (AF23), a conference scheduled to take place in Montréal next October. For the occasion, Executive Director Alain Bourque was accompanied by Anne Debrabandere, who is responsible for coordinating the conference.

Promoting AF23 to key players

In this context, a panel organized as part of the activities taking place at the Canada Pavilion presented the scientific thinking behind the choice of topics that will be addressed at AF2023. The discussions provided a forum to hear different perspectives on the best ways for the conference to address the main concerns of communities undertaking adaptation. Mr. Bourque and Ms. Debrabandere also met with several members of the AF23  scientific and steering committees, WCRP representatives as well as a number of potential partners of the event.

Panels and international forums

Additionally, Mr.  Bourque participated in various forums, including a parallel event organized by the FAO in collaboration with the Government of Quebec, Climate Action Network Canada and the AQOCI, which was entitled: Farmers’ voices for implementing NDCs: local solutions for a global impact. He was also one of the panelists for an activity organized by Université de Sherbrooke to discuss IPCC’s most recent report.

High-level political meetings

Lastly, Mr. Bourque presented the latest findings in the field of climate change science to Quebec’s Minister of the Environment, in addition to meeting with Economy, Innovation  and Energy Minister Pierre Fitzgibbon together with senior management of Investissement Québec regarding the impacts of climate change on businesses and the economy of Quebec.
