A range of impacts, from gradually mounting stressors to sudden climate shocks
In Quebec, rising average annual temperatures and changes in precipitation patterns are leading to a series of climate-related issues that are having significant impacts on many economic sectors, including tourism.
In recent years, the tourism industry was particularly affected by a series of events occurring in different regions of Quebec at different times of the year.
Identify the observed and projected changes, impacts, and adaptation strategies for various climate-related phenomena.

Events like heat waves, heavy rains and floods occur suddenly, causing immediate disruptions to the tourism industry. Issues like rising sea levels and declining snowpack are taking place gradually, putting ongoing strain on the tourism industry.
Examples of events
Flooding causing major damage to a campground’s infrastructure, equipment and facilities
Storms, heavy rain, or high winds forcing the cancellation or postponement of outdoor events or activities extérieures
Impacts vary by region and by season
The scope and scale of these impacts depend on a variety of factors, including the specific characteristics of each region and seasonal variations.
